QuickTime video format

Read more about QuickTime if you like. QuickTime functions as a multimedia container file that contains one or more tracks, each of which stores a particular type of data: audio, video, effects, or text (e.g. for subtitles). Though developed and supported primarily by Apple Computer, the format of Apple QuickTime isn't limited to Macintosh operating systems. Apple QuickTime is also commonly used in Windows systems, and other types of computing platforms. In Windows, QuickTime movies usually appear with the .mov filename extension.

MJPEG file type

What is MJPEG? MJPEG stands for Motion JPEG Video. Originally developed for multimedia PC applications, where more advanced formats have displaced it, M-JPEG is now used by many portable devices with video-capture capability, such as digital cameras. For QuickTime formats, Apple has defined two types of coding: MJPEG-A and MJPEG-B. MJPEG-B no longer retains valid JPEG Interchange Files within it, hence it is not possible to take a frame into a JPEG file without slightly modifying the headers.
