DV video format

What is DV? DV is a digital video format created by Sony, JVC, Panasonic and other video camera producers. MiniDV has since become a standard for home and semi-professional video production. MiniDV tapes can also be used to record a high-definition format called HDV in cameras designed for this codec, which differs significantly from DV on a technical level as it uses MPEG-2 compression. Most DV players, editors and encoders only support the basic DV format, but not its professional versions. DV Audio/Video data can be stored as raw DV data stream file or the DV data can be packed into AVI container files. The DV meta-information is preserved in both file types.

DivX DVD file type

Here is more info about DivX DVD. DivX DVD player, also DivX compatible DVD player, can play standard DVD format, DivX or DivX encoded AVI format. However, AVI files with some features such as resolutions greater than 720*576, packed bitstream, file sizes greater than 2 GB or high video bitrates are not supported by Divx DVD player, in which case, you can reconvert the AVI file using AVI Recomp to create a new AVI file that is DivX DVD Player compatible.
