AVC video format

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is a standard for video compression. The final drafting work on the first version of the standard was completed in May 2003.

XviD file type

Xvid is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard, specifically MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP). Xvid is a primary competitor of the DivX Pro Codec. Xvid is not a video format. Since Xvid uses MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) compression, any video that is encoded with it can be decoded with all MPEG-4 ASP compliant decoders. Xvid encoded files can be written to a CD or DVD and played in a DivX compatible DVD player. However, Xvid can optionally encode video with advanced features that most DivX Certified set-top players do not support.
